These are Armor vehicle proficiency badges 1st and 2nd class. So the first image is a 1st class.

I'm not sure if it is. Although I can't find this series in some of the badges book that I own, I did find them in the Soviet Medals and Badges, by Phil Bartel and Ivan Karnes plate number 72. According to this book there were two types: First type in the 50's were SB and the second type after the 50's was PB. In comparing them to the tank proficiency badges, they seem constructed the same way. I just received a serie of 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes of these Armor Vehicle proficiency badges. Unless I can be pointed in the right direction, I would have to say that they are Soviet.

Here is the set I just bought. They are also pinbacks.

I was able to obtain a bit more information on this series of badges. They are Soviet and came out at the same time as the tank proficiency badges but were only in circulation for a few years and were replaced by the combined arms badges. This info courtesy of Othlichnik (Shawn).

Badge "Tank Specialist".

Hello,

in which time period were these tank classification badges awarded?

I have one made out of brass with a needle system and one made out of a lighter metall with screwback system.

Are there any fakes made from this badge?

regards
Andreas

the older one
