Re: Cuban Badges
The guards badge has two versions at least, the earlier and later versions are shown below, both Soviet made.

Re: Guard RC
The first thing I thought of when I saw this one was the following thread: http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...rds-badge.html
The same questions apply here, too. Who made them and why? My gut says fantasy in this case mainly because I have never seen a Cuban Guards badge before (which doesn't mean they don't exist, just that I haven't seen one) and I see no reason why they would. It makes perfect sense that a former Soviet republic like Belorussia has their own Soviet-looking version of a guards badge, they also kept the MVD and KGB in name and style of awards. Republics were part of the Soviet Union and as such were equal (more or less) in the eyes of the Red Army. Cuba, however, was half a world away and the Kremlin's "honeymoon" period with Castro was very short. After the early 1960s, the Central Committee merely put up with Castro and his whims in order to have a beacon or at least an example for other South American countries to see and hopefully emulate. In short, I'm a bit skeptical about this being real. At the same time, it is a rather good looking piece.:) Phillip

Re: Guard RC
Gentlemen,
I´m pretty sure this badge is original. These badges were made in the USSR (as well as arms specialist and paratrooper ones) and their construction is almost identical to their soviet counterparts. I had the chance to see one by myself and had the same mintmarks and screwplate of a soviet guards badge, and the manufacturing quality is identical to the one ph3s is showing us.

Re: Guard RC
These show up from time to time on Ebay. I did a quick search yesterday when I looked at this post but the only stuff worth a look were arms specialist and paratrooper badges; no guards badges appeared this time.

Re: Guard RC
Guys,
Cuban guards badges are somewhat scarce and don't show up very often IMHO. Marc |
