Dog tag?

Do you think this is a Soviet dog tag or identity disc?

Supposedly during the GPW the Soviets used tiny plastic tubes that contained the soldier's information written on a paper slip.

So what is this?

Supposedly "Litshnyi Znak 921 685 Str. Polk" is stamped on it with the soldier's number as "921".

Eric,

Never heard of these before. Modern day entrepreneurship?

Re: Dog tag?

I agree.

This is totally plausible, but more than likely the results of an active imagination looking to make a buck. I like how the unit designation survived too...;)

Re: Dog tag?

Crap. Figured it was too good to be true at 99 cents.

Re: Dog tag?

I think Soviet Cossack units used dog tags. I think I read it on WAF, but don't remember which thread.

Re: Dog tag?

Guys,

It's not only genuine, but also quite rare. This is not a god tag per se, but rather a tag that was given to soldiers, leaving the territory of their military unit for up to 12 hours. Essentially, for shorter periods of time it was used in stead of a Personal ID Booklet.

Re: Dog tag?

Interesting. So these were given out temporarily then? Someone issued these to a soldier who was going away on business and then when he returned he turned in the tag to HQ?
Cool Alexei, thanks yet again. :thumbsup
