"Ninety Years on Moscow Streets.

Ninety years in Moscow have seen Tverskaya Ulitsa shift its course, and the Christ the Savior Cathedral destroyed and rebuilt on its original spot.

Track those changes in an exhibition at the Alexander Pushkin Museum entitled "Moscow Time," which juxtaposes 200 pairs of photographs taken on the same spots in 1913 and 2003.

The before-and-after shots cover everything from thoroughfares, such as Komsomolskaya Ploshchad, where a speeding car has replaced trams and horse-drawn carts, to typical Muscovites such as policemen and market traders.

The 1913 shots were taken by Emilii Gautier-Dufayet, a local historian of French origin, who captured Moscow streets in around 500 photographs as part of a project by the Imperial Moscow Archaeological Society. The year 1913 marked the 300th anniversary of the ascension of the Romanov family to the throne.

Whenever possible, the modern shots were taken from the same spot and at the same angle.

"On many of the old photographs, there is exactly the same view as today," said Dmitry Peretyatko, a spokesman for the exhibition.

"Moscow Time" (Moskovskoye Vremya) runs from Oct. 30 until Nov. 12 at the exhibition hall of the Alexander Pushkin Museum, located at 55/32 Arbat (entrance from Denezhny Pereulok). Metro Arbatskaya. Tel. 241-7586."
