How old is this helmet
Hi! Could anybody tell how old this helmet is? The configuration of the chinstraps seems weird... (Y-straps?). Also, does anybody have a comment about the rather bright green colour? Apparently it was found close to the Shukov bunker at the Seelow heigths, but my suspicion is that it is a after-WW II model... Thanks for any comment!

helmet
Hello steffe,
welcome to the forum! I have to say I am not a 'helmet' guy, but I agree that the helmet (and the paint job) looks quite postwar. I am sure one of our regular members who is better versed in helmets can give a more definitive answer. DougD Moderator-cloth |

Helmet
It looks to have a chinstrap used in the model 43 examples. I am sure Doug is correct about the post-war status. My guess would a be a 1950's piece, but I am not an expert on Soviet helmets.

If it's from 40's it should have a star stamped on the bottom of the "visor" and a number on the rear side (may be hard to find, esp. if the shell was repainted) and may have a black stamp with four digit date. If it's later - it should have a black, visible stamps without date.
As for the straps - from what I know soldiers from guards units worn helmets with this kind of straps untill at least 1968. |
