Participant Ticket Skiing Championships Of The USSR 1939.

Here is another strange bit of paper from the collection. A participation ticket from the March 1939 USSR Championships in skiing. In length it is a fair bit longer than a piece of A4. The name is a little bit beyond my reading skill in Cyrillic so I've not been able to research the person whom had this paper issued. They most certainly will have been physically fit to be participating. Skiing was something in high demand just a few months later when Finland was in sight.

Here is a little bit of information I've found on another participant of this event.

"Vladimir Mjagkov. In the Soviet ski championships in 1939 Mjagkov put up an exceptionally good time over the 20-kilometre distance, and became Soviet champion at that distance. During the war he was called into the Army and put in charge of a small unit of athletes which came directly under the Intelligence directorate of the front. He was later killed in fighting behind enemy lines. He was the first of the top Soviet athletes to be made a Hero of the Soviet Union, in his case posthumously. The tasks that Mjagkov's sports unit was carrying out, the circumstances of his death and the act for which he was made a Hero remain a Soviet state secret to this day."
