Merchant Marine Visor Cap

Up for auction on a swedish online auction site, this clean and bright navy cap features a somewhat interesting badge - anyone who knows what it is? Reminds me of the River fleet, but did they use such high crown hats? Start price about 50 USD.

Riverine fleet/merchant marine. The cord seems to be modern Ukrainian (?). At least not original soviet. Some uniform regulations of non-navy fleet are on www.civil-uniform.narod.ru if You are patient and have some time at hand...

Tretov,

It is post 1991, that is why the crown is so high.

As Marc says, must be post 1991, not only because of the crown but by the cheap cords. Those are always seen in crude fakes who are increasing nowadays. I suggest you pass on this one.

I wouldn't be so sure about the age. The cord is indeed modern and ugly, however, the crown size doesn't neccessarily make it post 91. I have a navy cpt. 1st rank cap which is definately soviet (but most likely custom made) and it has a radiculousily large crown.
In addition, modern ukrainian navy caps (and probably russian as well) have the crown front higher and somewhat more flat...

Morfłot and similar didn't always follow the same rules as the navy - I have seen a Morflot cap with smaller (like pre 69) crown which was dated 1974.
