Wound Stripes
Hey guys,
I have a question... OK, So tonight, I was on flickr, looking for victory parade pics, and I see this picture of a veteran, a Polkovnik of artillery, with his possibly grandson or granddaughter. Now, the uniform of him is pretty typical of a vet, but It has a wound stripe bar. two yellows, one red, and two blues... AFAIK, werent there only yellow and red stripes? Is there something that I'm not aware of here? |

I believe those are unoficial stripes for contusions, worn only by WWII vets.

Strange... According to my 88/89 reg books (yes, i finally have it, not only the posters), such stripes are official and shown on page 220. There are no blue stripes, only red and yellow. They are only shown for up to 3 wounds. Frostbite is technically a wound (at least by german regulations) so maybe blue is for illness?

wound stripes
willie,
i do not think Alexei was saying ALL wound stripes were unofficial, just the blue ones. DougD |

The blue one is unofficial (eg does not appear in any regulation), and IMHO, is for contusions received. Marc Last edited by Lapa; 12-17-2007 at 12:37 AM. |

Wound Stripe Questions
Hi all, I'm new to this forum and not a collector, but trying to put a display case together for a family member. I have some questions regarding Wound Stripes.
The attached photo shows my wife's grandfather (Sgt on the left) sometime in 1944 wearing what I believe is a wound stripe. He lost all his war time awards/medals after being wounded again, and I'm trying to replace them. 1. He gave me all 4 of his "Spravka O Raneni" wound card certificates. Would he have been eligible to wear 4 wound stripe patches? 2. I've searched various online sites and couldn't locate any wound strips that matched the one in the photo. Were there many different variations/patterns/sizes of each worn? 3. Any thoughts where to obtain original or reproduction wound stripes? Thank you for any help! Chris |

Wound Stripes
I just added to sets of wound stripes to my collection. I have seen these in the 1989 USSR Uniform manual, but never in person. They are much smaller than I thought (image with ruler for those interested). I lost out on the auction for two other sets on olive green/khaki fabric (auction pictures included) but hopefully down the road I can find some. Any uniform collectors ever see these sewn on a uniform?
