New book dedicated to Order of Suvorov, for sale by NYC area dealer:
"Complete Encyclopedia of the Order of Suvorov. Titled "Named For a Military Genius" Aleksey Pavlikov C. 2004. Russian text, hard cover with dust jacket, 294 pp. Book dimensions are 8'X11"x1". Only 1000 copies in print! The book features over 100 close-up photos and extreme close-ups of fragments illustrating the difference between variations and mint strikes. Among them are many variations that had not been identified in any previously published literature, plus photos of numerous trial versions. There is also a close-up photo of the only known surviving example of Suvorov 1st cl. on suspension. Over 100 pages are dedicated to photos of related documentation: order booklets, original award record cards, official letters accompanying the awards etc. Nearly as many pages have large format b/w photos of most distinguished recipients with full chest of decorations. The book also contains a vast amount of technical data from the official mint archives regarding the manufacture of all three classes of the Order of Suvorov. The amount of historical information about the recipients is similarly immense. There are also numerous examples of award citations for all 3 classes with brief biographies of some of the recipients. Of special interest is a complete list of all Soviet and foreign recipients of the 1st class of the Order (almost all with award serial number). $125.00" Last edited by CtahhR; 02-20-2014 at 01:43 PM. |

I wonder if anyone in US read this book.
I have a few opinions from fellow collectors in Russia. None of them was positive. I can judge about style of the author based on his articles in "Kavaler" magazine. It was quite pathetic. As for the price I'm not sure it's fare to pay over $100 for such book. I ever heard opinions that authenticity of the orders in the book was questinable. |

Eugene,
I guess Igor is probably the only one in the US who saw this book. How much is it selling for in Russia? Vlad |

New Suvorov Order Book - Anyone have a copy?
Does anyone have this book? There's a copy currently for sale on the web, at a well-known dealer's site, but it's a pricey little devil! :yow There is supposedly a listing of awards to foreigners with serial numbers listed... If you have the book, can you confirm that this is there?
Thanks! Dave |

Dave,
Can you please post the name of the book and the author(s)? The one you mention is that one for sale at $125.00 on that well known NJ dealer's site? Dolf |

Dave,
I can find you a copy here in StPetersburg, I browsed through one just last week. I personally decided not to buy it as it is mostly a compendium of photos. True, Suvorov 1st class to foreigners are lists, but that makes this bit of information very pricey IMHO. Best suggestion (unless you really want one): wait for someone to buy the book and ask them to photocopy just that page. Marc PS: If you want it despite all of that, please contact me |

Marc:
I'm just hoping for someone with a copy that can make me a scan of the one page. Since I'll never own another Suvorov, there's no point in my buying a copy. I'm just surprised that NO ONE has bought one! Dave |

Dave,
I am not surprized, it is a very expensive book with little to justify such a high price. Marc |

I happened to have this book. I would never buy it myself. It's not worth it. It was gift from fellow collector from Russia. There is a list of 31 foreign recepient of Suvorov 1. Is it what you were looking for? Eugene |
