Russian Watches
Does anyone collect Russian watches?
What do you have?

Well, I have a "Molnija" with a RS pictured on it. It´s actual issue, given to me by a russian friend I have. Does that kind of watches count?

These are my two everyday watches.
They keep excellent time...as long as you remember to wind them up. The one on the left is from the 60's and the right from the mid 50's as I recall.

Don't really collect them- I use them daily. I have a Molnija pockwatch with Lenin on the top of the cover and the seal of the USSR on the back, a Vostok model "General" and a model "Admiral" wristwatch- both post 1991- which I wear daily, and the prize, special events or when I need a boost wristwatch- a Vostok 1995 "50 Years Victory" gold face with the OGPW screened on the face. A really nice watch for a collector. All the above keep great time when wound.

Back in the old days, when I actually had some discretionary income, I wanted to get one or two mechanical Russian watches. Sad to say I never did. There still seems to be some good deals on eBay. Or at least the last time I looked.

Factory store...
If you pass through Moscow, you can stop by the factory store. They'll give you a price quite a bit below the price in the hotel you would probably stay in. I poked around it a couple years ago, but none of them really hit me at the time. I think they were trying too hard to make their stuff look like western fashion watches at the time.
I see plenty of older ones around (especially pocket watches), but I don't know the subject well enough to delve too far. ...Brian |
