Firefighter's uniform
I don't collect uniforms, but I think it is nice one - with the ribbon for the medal "for bravery in a fire". And it's cheap too...

Fire Service buttons???
Can anyone confirm for me what type of buttons Firemen used on their uniforms? I have some buttons with a cossed monkey wrench and hammer and the only thing I can come up with for these is fire service.
Thanks

Is that right Doug? I thought they would have had normal hammer and sickle buttons. Did firefighters use the regular hammer and sickle style buttons?

Railroad
I'm not talking railroad tropps here, I am talking railroad service; they used the cross hammer and wrench, not the hammer-sickle.

Hammer and sickle buttons are not a Soviet symbol per se but a Red Army/Soviet Army symbol - so militsia, firefighters (except maybe army ones), railway workers (except army troops), factory guards, etc don't get them.
MVD, KGB and KGB Border Guard troops do as they are part of the armed forces. Shawn |

I think it is a praporchtchik fireman jacket: equivalent grades for warrant officers (dunnow if correct word), long career NCO between classic NCO (after starchina) and officers (below mladchii leitenant).

I think this is the highest warrant officer rank :Senior warrant officer or Starshij praporschik .
warrant officer or Praporschik is brick-like texture and two metal screwed-in stars. Junior warrant officer or Mladshij praporschik is brick-like texture and one metal screwed-in star or "plain" without the stars. I've been reading that this rank probably doesn't exist any more. the rank after is a different category it s officer :junior lieutenant or Mladshij lejtenant, board would be gold with one red (depending on branch) strip in the middle and one screwed-in star. Our French colleagues are correct as usual. Senior warrant Officer of the MVD Fire Fighting Service, M69 officer parade uniform.
