How many reference books?
Guys
How many reference books do each of you have to assist you in your collection? Which ones? Thanks

I've got 44 books on Soviet awards and small unit histories and/or combat histories within arm's reach, and an entire bookshelf of books across from my desk that deals with nothing but the time period 1918 through the end of WW2. What kind of books are you referencing? All of my Soviet related books? Or just ones directly related to Soviet orders and medals? Or ones related to Soviet award research?

I got 4 books whereof one is electronic. I would love to have a few more books, but I cannot afford it and these books are not available in any book store around... :(
My number one "book" though, which I use mostly and look in everyday, and that is updated daily, is spelled soviet-awards.com/forum ;) :) |

Dave,
I also would be interested in which books other than PMD "bible" you would recommend for "... directly related to Soviet orders and medals... ". All I have related to Soviet Awards, apart from PMD's Guide (which is my primary reference, with this Forum, and the Mondvor site from time to time) is the 4th Edition of Herfurth Catalogue + that small book from Putnikov. Also have that Borisov book about Soviet Badges, but as it is in Russian I must confess it's not of great help. Thank you, Dolf |

As you can see, there are a LOT of books on Soviet awards. I have about 35 in my little library...and counting. I suggest that you will read ALL the threads in this sub-forum, and you will see the reflections members has on those books.

The top shelf
Just curious (and just trying to restore some sense of community):
What is the "top shelf" of your ready-at-hand reference sources? Here's mine. |

Re: The top shelf
Mess? What mess?!
Some of mine dwell in bookshelves, but most in chaotic stacks, just waiting to fall over. Or, sad and lonesome, in storage. |

Re: The top shelf
Books have a nasty habit of reproducing. Here is the medal/uniform section of my book case, Billy from IKEA of course - anything else would be blasphemy in Sweden. Some well known titles and some less common.
