Before he joined his current squadron comrade Chikin conducted 25 sorties on the Bryansk Front in an R-5 aircraft with an overall flight time of 65 hours, bombing the enemy front line. During his service with his current squadron he conducted 20 sorties with an overall flight time of 28 hours, maintaining communications between the corps and the ground troops. He flew up to the front line, in range of enemy fighters. He possesses a thorough understanding of his specialty. In the air he has a good sense of direction. He carries out his missions in an excellent manner. During the operation at the Vistula River on the Radom axis he was personally given orders by the corps commander to fly toward our troops’ front line. He handled this task very well. In everyday life he is a cultured officer. He is disciplined and serves as an example for the other officers. For carrying out his combat missions in an excellent manner he deserves to be awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class.
