Chris,
I think it's more likely that the Order was missing from the group, and substituted by the seller. Alexei |

The S/N is very strange - it should be in the MIDDLE of the order, and it looks like someone change it,

thanks
I'm not so sure. Why replace it with a rarer 2nd Numbered award 4919.
I have always wondered why some Red banners where issued with numbers to reciepiants and some were plain ordinary ones for maybe even his forth award. I just wondered perhaps on being issued a non numbered badge they could ask perhaps for a numbered replacement. Thanks anyway..and Alexei you could be right..that simple... regards Chris |

Chris and Alexei,
The order number 407300 in the OK is the order of the RED STAR, not order of the Red Banner. Look carefully and see for yourself.....The question is now - where is Red Banner S/N 233969? And do you have the Red Star Number 407300? BTW, could you post a close scan of the loop from the order of Lenin? (obverse please). Tal

Opps my mistake tal
I have the red star and pat war 2nd both correctly numbered and corresponding to the orders book. I also have the leningrad Doc and doc for his war with germany medal. It is the banner 233969 which has been replaced by 4919 numbered.......if it was the other way around I would probably think some one is trying to make an extra buck I got this group from an antiques shop in Tallinn they are pretty straight I believe. (famous lasts words). I don't think there is any skulduggery involved..just not worth it. I paid 500$ for this group of seven all supported by docs except the banner concerned. I have scanned the backs of the 2 medals..not sure if the numbers will come out to well but they are as in the doc book. Chris Last edited by CtahhR; 04-12-2012 at 06:42 AM. |

More research
If it was up to me and I owned this group I would have some more research done. I would want the award card and citiations from the archives. If the second red banner is a correct replacement it should be noted somewhere.

Hi
Yes I think it would be worth researching...he got his banners and Lenin when they meant something more than brown nose awards and for Leningrad Just changing the subject slightly but as I have my Red Banner head on. Here is a Mirror reverse I picked up last year. I notice they are getting very hard to find this is Number 6854 maybe for the Finnish War..certainly won at a time when they meant something. Chris - since you last posted, have you gotten any more info on this grouping? Research? New ideas?

Greetings Fellow Collectors,
I recently was offered several Red Banners (awards 1 through 3). Awards #2 had modified serial number and letter "D" on the back (meaning "Duplicate"). Overall, the awards look fine, I just can't figure out what was he reason to modify the number. What do you think? Thanks, William Last edited by CtahhR; 04-12-2012 at 06:44 AM. |

arrgh!! I see the trace of rotating tool! just on the s/n ! and the s/n has no patina...the traces have the same colour than the reverse but I believe to see metal fibers oriented like scratches of rotating tool...
the erasing looks like a thin depression: anormal because the exterior of the reverse is flat. a research could be useful. One must see in what sort of group this order must be integrated. A good way to replace a lost piece? the 3 orders don't seem to be on a common susp?
