Re: Circus freaks, elephant men, and orphans...

An interesting Bravery Medal just in. Nice big home made ring and home made suspension. Looks like the soldering process also blackened the medal a bit.

Damaged, Repair, Clean, Preserve Soviet Awards.

Despite the lack of camera focus here's an example of a VoJ I just aquired.
I don't think I've ever seen a medal so extremely worn down.

Re: well worn medals

Wear like that makes me think it was polished on a regular basis over many years by a pround veteran, and then left to sit for the past three or four years.

I've got a couple tsarist medals that can compete, but they are also 50 years older than this.

Re: well worn medals

Here's one I saw on the E-channel this morning.
Not so much well worn as worn out!

Re: well worn medals

I have several ORS's in various degrees of "broken-ness" like this. I often find them as left-over pickin's in bazaars. I nab them because they will otherwise be melted for jewelry making. I figure just because it's broken doesn't mean there's no history.

Now, when the Podolsk archives are open for regular guys to do research (and when pigs subsequently fly out of my ass), I'll research them. Until then, I guess it'll never be affordable or timely bez documents.

BRIAN'S RED STAR RESCUE

Providing a safe haven for broken and abused awards since 2007

Call 1-800-red-star to adopt one today.

Here's a great shot I just took of a Defense Of medal.

This one came out so well I can't believe it. And I've no clue why, other than the lighting and the angle to the light source.

Anyhoo....this one seems to have been worn a lot.
