I just recently picked up a service coat from an antique shop and was wondering what some of you thought about it's authenticity. My experience with militaria is with WWII germany and I know little about Soviet militaria. So this was a bit of a gamble.
The coat itself seems obviously authentic, but I question some of the combinations of the awards. The thing that most strikes me is that there are WWII era ribbons on a modern coat. If this guy had been in the military long enough to possess both of these, I would have expected them to have a higher rank.
Hello and welcome to the forum. The coat is an NCO, modern, and fine. Take off all the awards and ribbons, they have been added to make it more "attractive".
As for photos, please upload them like i did here, thanks.
The photo detail isn't quite clear on my monitor, but it looks like an OBH sitting a couple down from a VoJ and a GPW anniversary sitting far too high up the stack, or am I just seeing it wrong? It looks like someone just mixed and matched some ribbons on a bar.
Definately follow Dougs advice. I would hang on to the awards but the ribbon bar is definately out of order. In addition to what has been said here, it also looks like there is a ribbon for the Defense of the Caucasus.
Thanks for the input everyone. Looks like my gamble went the way of most gambles. I should know better by now not to engage in impulse buys with this stuff.
Here are the other pictures. I am curious as to what the writing on the inside of the coat means.
Remove the collar tab insignia that is pinned on the chest (the wings and wheels). The otlichnik badge and sportsman badge is fine. Ribbon bar should be removed... Maybe add a komsomol badge.

I would follow all of the advice given here. As for the ribbon bar, I would still hang on to it. Here's what you have:
Top Row: Victory Over Japan, 40th Anniversary of the GPW & th Order of the Badge of Honor.
Second Row: Medal for the defense of the Caucasus, Medal for the Capture of Berlin & Medal for the 60th anniversary of the Soviet armed Forces.
Bottom Row: Another Medal for the 60th anniversary of the Soviet armed Forces.:weird
It is definately made up. However I'd keep the ribbon bar, But that's just me.
