Exactly what I was meaning and saying in another thread about general caps...
Some M45 parade general's uniform even came with "an option" for removable left-hand-side buttons.

I have marshal and general uniforms with split ring fasteners for the buttons, most likely to find on the top two for just this purpose.

Welcome to the forum. I would wait for some input on the uniform. It looks right enough to me, but the NKVD uniforms are not my specialty (I know what they are supposed to look like in color so I'm just guessing. We need somebody like Doug or any of the cloth guys to have a look.
As for the handwriting, it is better (which makes it worse) than usual - if you know what I mean.;) The only part I could make out at a glance was that it says he served in the NKVD. I'll have another go at it tomorrow when I'm not so sleepy.
Do you think you could crop the pictures to show the collar insignia and a tighter picture of the hat? I think that would help the other guys.

I've seen this construct in another translation from Russian to English: "in memory to my friend". Seen in English it implies someone is dead. Buuut... I take it that's NOT the case here, right?
Meaning that "in memory" on the back of the picture is from someone alive to someone alive. Correct?
