Photographs Of Recipients Of Soviet Awards/Service Personnel.
desantnik Wrote:Final resting place of HSU Colonel Shayapin in Tashkent - not the St. George ribbon fairly recently applied to his grave.

Did you take the photo? American cemeteries are downright boring! If you have ever visited cemeteries in Moscow and Kiev, especially for the rich and famous, they are like art masterpieces! If you see these huge ornate graves of very young people, then most likely they were super wealthy Mafia figures who were murdered. Their families created monuments to their beloved. But when I saw them, I thought, "I wonder how many people they have murdered?"

Henry, yes, I took it. Did you enjoy your visit?

Here's another from Tashkent belonging to Georgii Ilich Kostin showing a more traditional form of the early parachutist badge.

Final resting place of OPWI recipient, then Major, Grigorii Ilich Raizburd in a Tashkent cemetery. According to podvignaroda he received the OPWI as 234 Rifle Division Chief of Communications during operations in western Ukraine and Poland and conducting subsequent "trophy" operations. During the war he was also awarded a Combat Service Medal. His Lenin, Red Banner, and Red Star are almost certainly long service awards.

Captain Petukhov's wartime RS citation is for organizing the rear area during the liberation of western Ukraine near Volyn. Second RS is most certainly for long service. Gravesite in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Here is Red Army Soldier Fedor Grigor'evich Vodolazskij photographed on 27th January 1942.

On 9th March 1942 (less than 6 weeks later), this 19 year old Tashkent Soldier of the 1137th Rifle Regiment was "lost in action".

This may be the sole surviving photograph of this fallen Soviet combatant with an unknown resting place. Rather strangely it sold on the forum marketplace for only 1 cent. Worthless? no. Now a priceless memorial to sacrifice.

Here is a 12th July 1945 photograph of Guards Major Kadirov. Strangely enough printed on a lend-lease Kodak brand postcard.

Unfortunately a rather common name so as yet I have not been able to pinpoint him.

Gents,

It's not every day that you come across an image of someone who was awarded both the HSU and HSL titles - there were only seven recipients.

V. I. Golovchenko won his HSU title as a self-propelled gun mechanic/driver while serving in the 1055th Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment.

Regards,
