true, i actually had a pair of awarded pants in a few years ago; red leather from 1918-1920. I am not sure how official these were, or the watches, etc. Were there ever regulations that these were official statewide awards, standardized, etc. I always went with the idea that the Red Banner was the first "official" nationwide award, though given to units, not individuals. Either way, the term "award" is not limited to medals.
