The price hikes can be a double edged sword. On one hand, when one goes to sell something, one can expect to make a profit, and on the other hand, when one wishes to add something new, the higher prices can be disheartening.
I started out collecting US Civil War artifacts, but the prices went beyond my price range. I still have my CW collection, but since then, I've moved to a small WWII collection, and now Soviet/East Bloc collection. When I first started out collecting Soviet awards, I picked up some common awards at really decent prices. I regret not purchasing some of the higher level awards at the prices that they were going for.
Another area of collecting that I've focused my time on is Soviet/Communist Bloc small arms. I recall purchasing my first Soviet SKS carbines for around $100.00 about 12 years ago. Now, to find the same Soviet SKS in my area will now cost around the $300.00 price range. I've certainly developed an appreciation for items in my collection, now that prices have gone through the roof.
