Very cool.
One tip I know for winter battle scenes, you dig up roots from a bush, small tree, etc, and invert the roots to make them into trees without leaves on them. You can also take braded non-synthetic rope (which is brown) and cut it into small sections to make tufts of dead grass/etc.
