As someone pointed out to me, some (a lot?) of peolpe are collecting medals as jewellery. Combat Medals - silver, Red Stars - silver, Order of Lenin - YAY!!! Prices on gold go up - everybody wants medals. What if the gold market crashes - a few 'collectors' become nervous ... you know the rest! How many Nevskys will it take to oversupply the maket when the rumour starts that nobody wants them - 50? 100? And how many were issued?
At the moment Russian medals are in fashion. Fashions come and go.
What I fear most is that when this market cools down, all the interesting research stories, the little discoveries in medal variations, the drama and the passion sweeping through the 'Fakes' section on the forum, all will be gone - because people will lose interest. Sadly, it happens all the time, not only in collecting. (Sorry, having a bad cold, not in a good mood today.) Sergei.
