Order for action in Gdansk (Danzig)

jefflgarrison Wrote:So, there we have it, seems Commander Klishin was second in command of a batallion of Polish soldiers. They did the flag raising and he got the credit. This is probably the reason he received a "Red Star" instead of the "Patriotic War, 2nd class". That and because they raised the wrong flag first.

Jeff,

I don´t think that he was second in command of a batallion of Polish soldiers.
Commander Klishin belonged to the 8th mechanized corps, second in command in political issues of 116th tank brigade. This corps was attched to the 2nd Shock Army and later to the 5th Guards Tank Army in Januar 1945. Maybe his unit supported polisch troops during attack?

Yes, I know that the soldier who rose the flag over the Reichtstag in Berlin got a Hero Star.

regards
Andreas
