Thanks to everyone here for the excellent advise. I should clarify my position. I have a collection of orders and medals that I acquired in St. Pete in the early 1990s during several trips there for other business. Two Russian friends helped me buy the pieces at the time. I'm aware of the problem of 'copies'. I'm not a dealer and never researched prices and things like type and variation. I simply loved the jewel-like appearance along with the formal elements and superb craftsmanship. Though, from my research, I'm confident that my awards are authentic, I can't be 100% sure. Unfortunately, I don't have any documents but if there are copies in the bunch then they would have to be of extreme high quality. Compared to many of you mine is probably a modest collection - mostly R2, a few R1, one R3 and a handful of common medals.
I've lived with these pieces for almost 20 years and thought maybe other collectors might enjoy some of them. I'm not greedy nor desperate to sell. Just wanted to find out if there was interest. I've been doing a lot of research on the various sites and it's been fun.
Thanks again for your collected wisdom. This is a terrific site.
