We are talking about the rank of General, not some lowly private or NCO (no disrespect intended ot any of them, by the way). If anything, going along your theory, he would have had at least his Victory Parade uniform to wear...

By the way, according to generals.dk, there were 2 generals named Lapshin during WW2, none of which fit the bill in terms of initials or dates.
