I just saw 'Come And See' (Иди и смотри). Idi i smotri (1985) A Russian film from 1985 it's a story of the partisans in the GPW. It's quite bizarre in some spots, kinda like Alice In Wonderland but more like Ivan in Hell. It runs a bit long. Since it's based on the partisans there are Soviet few uniforms and no ODMs (:thumbsdown). We do get to see a lot of German uniforms and for the most part they're pretty much correct (except, of course, for the female SS trooper (WTF???)). Very little blood (excluding the landmine scene) although lots of implied violence and plenty of dead bodies.
Obviously I wasn't there but it seems to be what I would expect the life of a partisan group to be like.
Russian language, with English subtitles. I got it through Netflix so it is availabe in North America.
Now, as far as music goes I doubt there are too many forumites into metal but I've been enjoying the album '...Of Frost And War' by Hail Of Bullets. A Dutch death metal band this is a concept album totally about the GPW; starting with Operation Barbarossa and going all the way to Berlin. It includes songs about the aformentioned partisans, the "Night Witches", The Seige of Leningrad, Stalingrad of course and a LOT of death and destruction. If you like it loud and hard you *will* like this!
