I know of three further variants of this medal which can be classed as prototype versions.
When this medal was first proposed the original draft design included on the obverse the Croatian initials, RH to the left and the dates 1990-1992 to the right of the central figure, the reverse was plain. These were omitted in the final production and placed on the reverse. The medal was also silver in appearance rather than bronze of the later medal.
The triangular ribbon was the same red,white and blue however they ran straight.
