The action described in post # 1 above was the culmination of his actions that day. Prior to that, on March 28th, 1944 while operating as part of a recon group, his tank crew destroyed four German gun emplacements and up to 20 German vehicles (with crews). His tank crew's actions allowed the brigade's main force to seize the objective - a city. Zemlyanov also furnished additional intel to his higher HQs upon return to his unit in his battle-damaged tank.
Considering that I've seen HSU titles awarded solely for having been a Soviet Olympic medal champion (go figure), I certainly wouldn't quibble with an HSU award to Zemlyanov in this instance.
