During his time serving in the Navy, starting in 1941, Midshipman Grigory Klimentyevich Slipchenko has proven himself to be disciplined and dutiful. He has mastered his specialty of diving excellently and possesses a lot of experience in raising ships and underwater engineering work, which he accumulated during the Patriotic War and during the years after the war. He took part in the operations to raise the gunboats Krasnoye znamya and Pioner. For carrying out his tasks in an excellent manner he has been awarded the Medal of Ushakov and the Medal for Combat Merit and has received 47 commendations.
From 1950 up to the present time, Midshipman Slipchenko has been continuously leading the search for and the recovery of mines in the harbors of the Riga Naval Base and the nearby rivers. For five years searching for mines, Midshipman Slipchenko disregarded the danger and personally inspected the mines that were discovered in the water and led their recovery and disarmament. With his direct assistance over 30 mines were raised, including more than 20 RMH mines. In 1954 Midshipman Slipchenko under water inspected 3 RMH mines with non-contact fuses, which had been found near harbor entrance breakwaters in the mouth of the Western Dvina River and in the immediate proximity of Riga Trade Port, and led the disarmament and recovery of these mines.
He is modest, dutiful and persistent in carrying out his duties. Midshipman Slipchenko always serves as an example of selfless service to the motherland.
For carrying out his tasks in the search for German mines and clearing the waters of Riga Naval Base in an excellent manner, G.K. Slipchenko deserves to be awarded the Order of the Red Star.
