Great stuff. I've alway found it amusing to see that the Mongolian's seem to stick the actual Soviet orders and medals seemingly anywhere they can, yet the ribbon bars are mostly regulation.

As for the new/current uniforms, it looks like the Mongolians went back to their oriental heritage whereas the Russians went to Imperial. Either way, the old is new again.

Here is the photo of Marshal Choibalsan's actual uniform he used to wear in 1930s. You can see the perforated left breast.

It's fantastic to see these Mongolian uniforms on display and to me a chest full of stars is far more an attraction than a sky full of stars. I don't suppose there would be too many places in the world outside of Mongolia to see such items publicly. I offered my local museum a vast selection of Militaria relating to what is called World War 2 here including Mongolian items to display (as that was their featured topic) and after first accepting my offer once I had spent considerable time mounting dozens of items on display and getting certificates for disarmed weapons etc. and took the items in they decided they'd rather be xenophobic about the whole affair and reneged. Other plans are coming into operation but at least some folks have the luck of being able to see such fantastic items on display in their own local museums.
