We have now a third winner !!! Dolf, Charlet, Sovvisor, Now that the 3 questions have been answered, in cooperation between you, I just propose that the first of you three wanting to post the next challenge... just do it!! Bravo. And, now, as promise, the anecdote about the picture of Zhukov I initially posted. This pic as well as the anecdote are from the book of Yevgueni Khaldei "From Moscow to Berlin", published in 1999. Ch. PS : Just click on the small pic and it becomes easily readable. Last edited by CtahhR; 12-05-2013 at 02:39 PM. |

Christophe, Sorry but I just don't know the complete answer. I thought it would be somewhere near the Kremlin in a possible Red Square (is there one in Moscow?!) and on May 9, 1945, but I see in the meantime Sovvisor found the correct info, bravo According to the anecdote after all there is a Red Square in Moscow Btw, I believe I've read somewhere that initially it was supposed that Stalin would be the one riding that horse, but it seems that horse (who I believe belonged to Stalin) was a bit too nervous and already had thrown someone down, so Stalin (very "generous" as we know ) gave instructions for Zukhov to be the one riding it rather than himself... Can't remember the source from where I got this story but it could be one of Chuikov's books, "The end of the TR". Maybe you have more details to complete the story... Best, Dolf Last edited by CtahhR; 12-05-2013 at 02:40 PM. |

Not much left of him now, but it was Senior Marshal of Artillery Nedalin (sp?). He was burned up in the testing of a new ICBM. There is a monument to those who were killed in the accident at the site, but his name is not on it. He is considered the one most responsible for the accident. James Oberg did a great write up of the entire event.
I sold one of his tunics quite some time ago; came from the artillery museum in St.Pete. OK, easy one ( i think)....maybe not quite as nasty has his boss, but close. DD Last edited by CtahhR; 12-05-2013 at 02:41 PM. |
