Temporary award certificate
This one for The Capture of Budapest.
Dated 1945 and awarded to a Starshina (senior sergeant). Signed by a Colonel in the 2nd Ukrainian Front. Help with the Starshina's name would be appreciated and any corrections made. I'd like for this new thread to continue with us posting different temporary award certificates and discussing variations (of which there are many). With a dedicated thread perhaps we may be able to focus information in one place and enable n00bs (and vets, as well) in their attempts at identification.

Re: Temporary award certificate
"Starshina" and "senior sergeant" - are two different ranks.
I see - guardian starshina Makuha Ivan Petrovich. |

CSM temp cert
This is an example of a temporary certificate for a Combat Service Medal (often mis-identified as a military merit medal)
This was discussed in more depth here: http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...tml#post119538 I show this for comparison's sake. I hope I have identified both of my examples (above) correctly as actual "temporary award certificates".

Re: Temporary award certificate
Hi Eric,
The Russians played around with their ranks throughout their history but generally the following list should hold true. Marshal of the Soviet Union General of the Army Colonel General Lieutenant General Major General Colonel Lieutenant Colonel Major Captain Senior Lieutenant Lieutenant Junior Lieutenant Warrant Officer or Praporshchik (post war rank 1972) Junior Warrant Officer or Podpraporshchik (post war rank 1972) Sergeant Major/Master Sergeant or Starshina Senior Sergeant Sergeant Junior Sergeant Gefreiter Private or Soldier, Reiter I have a few of these certificates - will post them when home for work tonight. Re: Temporary award certificate
Here are a few from my collection (thanks to Alexei several years ago!:thumbsup)
UPDATE: Sorry... just realized you posted "temporary award" certificates. I just posted 1 one them and the rest are honorary certificates, not certificate attesting the recipient was entitled to receive an award. Last edited by matteti; 02-25-2010 at 09:43 AM. |
