Seeking Info on Victory Banner No. 5
I'd be grateful for any specific information regarding the infamous "Victory Banner No. 5" flown over the Reichstag as shown in the Khaldei photo. I've looked everywhere (including the CAFM website), but have not been able to find any detailed information regarding either the precise measurements of the flag, hammer & sickle device, lettering in the inscription, etc. or the exact type of fabric used (other than a "red [cotton? wool?] tablecloth"). I'd also be interested in the precise manner in which the banner is attached to the staff--tacked? sleeved? tied? Finally, I believe at least the hammer & sickle device was actually painted onto the banner, but I haven't found many details about this either. I'm guessing if painting was involved, some kind of oil-based paint was used, but it's still a mystery to me.
