Something just doesn't seem right
I will never claim to be an expert on Soviet uniforms (that's why we have others here), but for a general's uniform, there seems to be a number of problems here for me.
Shouldn't he have a much larger ribbon bar to get to be am army general? Isn't that a repro WWII belt? I know the hat is problematic because I have a KGB parade hat with the exact same markings and the same red ribbon running in and out of the sweat band and was told these were post-Soviet production. Phillip

Re: Something just doesn't seem right
The problem I see first is the graduation badge; it is for junior officers and the 1980s version. That one should be a white rhombus for academy education. As for the ribbon bar, no problem really! The uniforms seem to be a legit 1970s daily uniform for a major general. The awards are as follows:
Order of Red Banner Order of Red Banner Order of Kutuzov II class Order of the Red Star Medal for Combat Service Medal for 100th Anniversary of Lenin birth Medal for Victory over Germany Medal for 20th Anniversary of above mentioned victory Medal for Victory over Japan Medals for 30th, 40th and 50th anniversary of the Armed forces. All is there! Combat service, Red Star and possibly one of the Red Banners are probably for long service since the medals for Irreproachable service are missing; the 1958 anniversary medal is present which means he was in service after the war. The 100th anniversary medal is the most recent award (1970). So... to conclude. Good set to a man who saw action on fronts where they did not institute campaign awards; worked on in the armed forces after the war. As for the belt; looks like an OK postwar generals belt to me? I have seen repros of such belts, but I think this one looks good. I am not sure if I understand right about the visor cap; but KGB general caps are disputed and the common sensus is that KGB Generals wore army caps with red piping, thus making "all" (never say never, we haven't seen them all) KGB General visor caps with royal blue piping post-Soviet production for collectors.
