Re: WW 2 NKVD Visor Hats
So this is one of those famous "arguments/debates" I've heard tell of among the cloth guys. Wow, I finally got to see one for myself.
Joking aside, and not being dismissive - honestly - because I have some real questions about these caps as they occurred just after the war among the MGB, but that's another subject for another thread (unless they fall into the same or similar category of having a red/brick red band but only royal blue piping - as I've seen some look for sale on the auction). I am completely dependent upon you guys for my info on 1950s security service attire - especially the hats.:thumbsup Phillip

No need for playing smartass here! I do not have my books available at this time, so I cannot check what the original text is, either in English or in Russian. I meant that Shalito is a native Russian speaker and that his book was translated into English by someone mastering more or less that second language. As most of us knows, translations into English are rarely of high quality. Therefore, is seems to me (and should to you, especially as a scholar) that, before starting to split hair into their smallest individual components, it might be a good idea to go back to the original text to determine if indeed the inferences raised from the English version have any substance. Re: WW 2 NKVD Visor Hats
Colors of NKVD/NKGB visor hats were always the same for enlisted and commanding personnel. The only difference was the materials and price of manufacturing. In 1941 NKVD paid 15.55 rubles for hats of commanding personnel and 8.40 rubles for hats of enlisted men.
The only distinction for this type of visor hats was instituted on August 21 1952. When colors of piping on the crown for MVD and MGB hats was set up differently. Still no distinction between officers and enlisted men visor hats in both organizations though. |
