I wouldn't. I'd erase the serial number, engrave the word "copy" on the back and sell it as such. I used to do it in my previous life as a dealer.

I've seen awards stamped or engraved "copy" (or similar) sold off with fairy tales attached for good money.

Sometimes the stories are worth far more than the items - even if it's made up.

X had to buy a copy X after his original was lost/stolen/destroyed during X and the "powers" authorised it as legitimate or some other lie.
