They look like they came off of a service jacket. I wish we still did our ribbons that way.

I suppose having them all fully court mounted (as is the style over here) isn't that helpful if you go overboard. It's alright if you're lazy, ill-disciplined and new but not that good if you have been diligent, long standing and repeatedly displayed valour.

To be honest, I really think that $199 is probably a bit much for the bar...but obviously someone has already tossed a bid on it, so they don't think it's too much!

His Glory medal is still with the family.

Yes..."spare"...in other words, the recipient had them made but only wore them for a short time before they became obsolete. Fairly common with sewn on and/or embroidered ribbons. When I was in the military, I stopped having my ribbons custom made because every time I received a new award, the whole thing had to be redone. I have bags of ribbon bars that were made obsolete as deployment awards caught up with me over the periods of months and years.

And if you look at the difference between the set in the frame and the set being sold, the original recipient had been awarded a Navy Unit Commendation (NUC) and added that to his ribbons. Thus, he had to get a new set made. The frustrating thing about embroidered ribbons...
