Here is a guide to the Commemorative Medals of the DPRK. Some of them are rather obscure and some of them are very commonplace. Due to the fact that these medals are awarded in lesser numbers than most of the Medals of the DPRK and usually for only a finite period there are very few known variations. A great deal of them will have been made in single production runs.

This first Kumgang Power Plant Dam Construction Commemorative Medal (금강산발전소건설기념메달) is one of the lesser known Medals of the DPRK founded in 1990. The design features the Dam, a Pylon, a Hammer and a Semi-Automatic Rifle (As for what a gun has to do with Dam construction I will never know). The Medal is constructed of plated aluminium.

Here is another variation. Most noticed by the different placing of the beads under the barrel.

This example is closer to the first variation but due to the soft material it is constructed from does look slightly different.

It actually turns out that this Medal was instituted on 11th September 1996 and not 1990 as previously thought.
