Re: Medal "Ushakov"
Now, there is a UFO among Russian Federation Ushakov Medals: a copper-nickel issue.
After careful analysis of the die characteristics, it is identical to the official silver version. However, all known specimens are not numbered, or display a fake serial number. These medals are not exactly plentiful either. Note that these were NEVER ISSUED. At this time, there is no clear explanation as to why such medals were made by the Mint. The most commonly accepted opinion is that it might be some special issue made for collectors, in the style of the infamous 1993 series of Soviet medals. Here is one representative of this issue, bearing a fake serial number. Marc |

Re: Medal "Ushakov"
Some very nice Medals there! It's a shame some idiot has put a serial number on an unissued copper variety. I suppose it was to take more money from yet another idiot.
I think the way to tell the Soviet produced Medal from the Russian Federation one is to lick it. The Soviet one tastes of the sweat of the workers but the RF one tastes of profit and cigars - or so some would have me believe.

Re: Medal Of Ushakov
Here's a bit from yesterday's local rag.
If he receives it by Remembrance Day I'll find out what number it is. The Captain is a really pleasant chap that is very active locally with any celebrations or memorials of the war. Always enjoyable to speak with too. If all living convoy veterans are getting these the British market will be flooded. I'll be prowling.

Ushakov medal to Royal Canadian Navy
What would be a fair price for a Ushakov medal with document etc. to a
Royal Canadian Navy Veteran of the Murmansk campaign? I read that there were 67 Veterans who received this honour in Canada. Thanks KF |
