Honorary Commemorative Badge For The 60th Anniversary Of The End Of The 2nd World War
Here is the Honorary Commemorative Badge For the 60th Anniversary Of The End Of The 2nd World War (Čestný Pamětní Odznak K 60. Výročí Ukončení 2. Světové Války). An official award of the Ministry Of Defence created on 10th September 2004 by Order #23 to be awarded to surviving Czech veterans of the allied forces. This is worn (like all other Czech awards) in chronological Order of award on the left chest.
The design depicts the two different liberation zones, western and eastern allies.

Re: Honorary Commemorative Badge For the 60th Anniversary Of The End Of The 2nd World
Strangely, the Ribbon Bar has two different devices. The first of which is a star missing the tips of two of its rays, with the demarcation line across it. (not damaged - never existed).

Here's mine.
A badge as such would probably not interest me that much if not for the recipient... |

As the document states, it was awarded to Zbigniew Furgala, born on 03.09.1926.
This person is quite easily identified as a later commandant of the Polish Border Protection Troops Officer School - Lieutenant-colonel Zbigniew Furgała: https://muzeumsg.strazgraniczna.pl/m...w-Furgala.html I am not certain who made mistake in the date, but 03/13 change was quite a common mistake. Furgała started his service in June 1943 in the newly-formed Polish Army in the USSR and was sentto the Officer School in Riazan' and after that he became a Machinegun Platoon commander in the 7th regiment of the 3rd Infantry division. He later also lead an MG platoon and MG company in the 3rd infantry regiment. He was twice wounded and participatedin the battle for Berlin. In 1946 he was assigned to the Border Security Troops. In 1961 he bacame the Commandant (headmaster) of the Border Troops Officer School. Retired in 1970. The last photograph comes from the book "Riazańczycy" ("Those of Riazan") dedicated to the first officer school of the "reborn" Polish Army. His connection to the Czech Republic is unknown, as none of his war-time units fought in Czechoslovakia. Perhaps in his career he was also on the Czechoslovak Border. Unfortunately, his award group was sold to pieces few years ago. This badge resurfaced a few days back. |
