He got his BM as a mortar crew commander for actions in July 1943 - for covering the attacking Germans with fire, cutting them off from their tanks and blocking their attack, as well as killing at least 20 of them.

He than got his CSM for September 1943 actions when crossing the Dnepr - at that time he was a submachinegunner (quite a change of specialty!). Repelling German attacks he personnaly killed 4 Germans. He would also go for reconnasance missions.

He was then awarded ORS for the fights in Pomerania in February 1945 as a tank platoon commander. He wouldlead the assault of his company on Bischofswalde (Biskupnica). During attack on Elsenau (Olszanowo) he blocked an enemy cannon from firing by a curious manouver. He also was effectivein destroying German forcesaround Baldenburg (Biały Bór).
