Air Force General's Parade Cap, but without wings ?
I purchased this cap recently and there is one thing about it which confuses me. It does not have the wings on the upper part of the cap which are normally present on air force visors caps. I know that prior to 1957 non flying officers in the air force wore the cap without the wings but this particular cap is dated 1964.
Can anyone advise me as to the reasons for this ? Is my understanding of the date of the regulation change incorrect (the most likely explanation) ? Regards, Paul |

Paul,
They may have been removed. Can you post some more pics of your cap, please; it seems to be rather wide for a 1964 cap. Marc |

I have a cap where the wings have fallen off and been replaced by the common officers wings... so, it ain't impossible that they have just flown away.

I will post some more photos after I get home tonight. I also thought that they may have fallen off but there are no holes or stitch marks to suggest that a badge was ever on it.

Paul,
On these caps, the badge was an emboidered piece that was then sew onto the crown. Marc |

As promised, some more photos. First a close-up of the crown. I have looked at it with a magnifying glass and there is no evidence of any missing embroidery or stitch holes at all. I am sure there was never a badge on this.
Next, the interior. Some nice minor wear, leather sweat diamond dated 1964 and leather sweatband. Last edited by CtahhR; 04-16-2014 at 04:50 PM. |

It is possible that the factory simply was not aware of the regulation change. The general did not care because he was probably non flying and there was nobody that dared to question him. After all, he was a general. Just my two kopeks...
