Re: "Polar Star" Order.
Here is Type 3 Variation 1 #1646. These three Mongolian Orders were purchased in 2019 for under $75 each.

Re: Consecutive Type 2 Polar Stars!
Have a close look at those screw plates. At least on the right one (perhaps also left?) it appears you may be in 'luck' and have caught a variation where the mint re-used an old Soviet medal to manufacture the screw plate. This has been well documented. My memory fails me with regard to whether this can also be linked to a particular serial range of Polar Stars.

The 1940 type OPS is a favorite of mine, due to it featuring Uighur script on the front and the Монетный Двор mint mark on the back. Here is one of the three examples I have. This is one of the rarer ones with a curved down mint mark. These have only been seen in a serial range of 300-400 pieces. Also note the “1” maker mark at the 12 o’clock position.
I acquired this from my favorite NJ dealer, so it is of high-quality. Last edited by Pravda; 01-03-2021 at 07:31 PM. Reason: Spelling |

Re: "Polar Star" Order.
Well, I still can’t help buying these guys. I just picked up this OPS Type 3, Variation 1. Note the low serial #91.
While I prefer Type 2s, I couldn’t turn down a double digit serial. Issued on the first day of issuing these types after war. Enjoy! Cheers, Will Last edited by Pravda; 06-19-2023 at 02:33 AM. |
