Re: All Other Medals
Eric,
It is definitely made of copper. The Victory over Germany is made of brass. Marc |

Re: All Other Medals
Marc (WW2 Collector), your labor medal is fine, as ph3s pointed out. It must have been stored in a humid climate because that is some serious (and nice) patina.:thumbsup (Also, have a look here: http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...ur-1949-a.html)
Eric, I can see where you are going with this (I think). Since copper is the base metal for bronze and brass, one can imagine a translation program making mistakes. However, there are Russian words for both bronze and brass (бронз(а/ы) and латун(и) respectively). Though I'm sure you know this already. This makes errors unlikely. However, my version of this medal still looks almost new (though it can't be) and has no discoloration or patina of any kind. So my question, and having seen many, many new US pennies and what color they soon turn, how is it that after all this time, the color of my medal still looks like a relatively new penny? Is there a coating of some kind to prevent normal oxidation? I've seen versions of this medal as dark if not darker, but never with an outer layer or coating that is "flaking." Finally, after looking at the less than perfect text on the reverse and in particular the H&S, I am agreeing with Paul's theory that this particular medal may have been made by a non-Soviet, post-1991 source. Re: All Other Medals
I'm wondering about that Veteran of the Armed Forces medal. Is it just the lighting are do we have another variant of the "gold" version here? http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...o-answers.html

Re: All Other Medals
Hello.
The Distinctive Work during WW2 medal I have shown in post#77 is ugly. Now, look at this one I have got today. Definitely, it is not better than the other! ciao sergio |

Re: All Other Medals
Sergio, you were on a lucky streak there for a while. I hope you did not change sellers because I do not like either of these medals, and what is stranger is why anyone would have the need to make these when they are so plentiful and cheap - unless they are looking for tourists who will pay a small amount (say $20) for something they will never question the authenticity of once they get home.:thumbsdown

Re: 100th Anniversary of Lenin - foreign
I expected to see these eventually, but now one has popped up. It is supposed to be for the Centenary of Lenin's Birth medal given to foreign dignitaries. I suspect the seller is counting on buyers not knowing about the very different clasp on those medals only.
