Fake Labour Medals - Page 12

Hello,

a friend visit me and we looked at my collection. We opened the box with questionable and fake items and found this labor medal with serial number.

What do you think about it? Reverse looks as it is was sandblasted before the number was cut in. The medal is a little bit thinner in thickness than other labor medals.

The letters "T" on the front side look right for a medal with serial number.

You are right about the suspicious looking worn "№" compared to the serial number itself.:weird It makes me wonder about the genuineness.

I like it. The ring, enamel, and engraving look standard for the early issue.

Unlike the early BM and CSMs, the "No" was struck as part of the medal, NOT engraved or applied afterwards. If you ever see an engraved "No" on one of the s/n'd labor medals it's definitely bad.

The reverse does appear to be a little less pronounced or sanded which can indicate a casting, but due to the spot-on features I'm pretty sure it's good without physically examining it.

It looks good to me too. By the way, there are examples on which the "N" is barely visible, simply due to wear of the die.

Do you know how long it took me to find the right "№" font? I had to make some kind of statement after that.:D

Just kidding. Thanks to both Marc and Paul for reminding me that there are legitimate reasons for wear - and I didn't know that at all about the die itself wearing out and still being used.:thumbsup

Just to be sure, what do you think about this medal?

According to the very high serial number (75.339) this must be one of the last awarded numbers.

The "pitting" of the silver looks natural as does the smoother areas that would have been easier to polish all those years. It's interesting more so because of the high serial number. If someone were going to fake one, it would seem more logical to go with a safer, less suspect serial number.

The surface looks a bit strange IMO. Has it been refinished?
On the other hand, the handwriting seems to be OK.
