That doublebreasted style, with various different colors for piping and tab backing, of the m43 was only worn by nkvd, mgb, or frontier troops who were a NKVD affiliate anyways. There was a similar m48 style for militia/police but it had different collars and cloth colors.

I know that basic information, but how do you make the difference between an M43 NKVD and an M43 army parade keitel on a B&W picture? :confused:

all red army branches were single breasted (single row of buttons). By 1945 many if not most nkvd were single breasted also with mgb and frontier as the double breasted (two rows of buttons). Air force were single breasted until 1947/48 when they changed to a brown double breasted and navy were double breasted throughout the war and postwar periods.

Collar tab and cuff spool configuration were also unique to NKVD Mundirs... Look closely at the many images posted here and elsewhere.

Sure, it would make sense, but the Polish one simply doesn't look like the Warsaw Medal.

It may likely have been what earned him the MVD "egg" badge he is wearing. It is a less common reason for being awarded one of those, and a pleasant change from the ordinary.

To me the one on that pic looks much more like a Warsaw medal than O-N-B. Also, polish soldiers who took part in the liberation of Warsaw (but not during the uprising and '39 defense) often got both polish "for Warsaw" and soviet "for the liberation of Warsaw" and the other way round - most of the soviet soldiers who took part in the liberation of Warsaw got the polish award sooneror later.
