Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

I've actually seen a fake 40 Years of Victory medal..... Maybe someone was bored and just wanted something to do? There really are some people with more fake medal producing equipment than brains out there..... You name it someone will fake it.....

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

Thanks for the tip Eric! I'm sure the stripes are definitely not faded yellow, so its likely its the imperial order of St. Stanislaus medal ribbon.

David.

That would be rather surprizing, given that original imperial ribbons are worth a fair bit.

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

Isn't it more likely some other Soviet bloc award ribbon? and wouldn't a pre revolution ribbon be larger as they had the larger suspension plates?

It might be. I only searched Russian ribbons when I responded earlier. I'll check shortly.
Some of the Warsaw Pact ribbons were not Soviet sized, either.

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

It's not a Bulgarian ribbon that much I know... A ribbon similar (not identical) to this was used in 2007 for an official medal issued by GAI for their 70th Anniversary.

There is a lot of them, mostly produced in England as a replacement for Nordic Convoy. But after I have seen fakes of Victory over Germany and valiant work in GPW. Istart to be more suspension tho. Then I foum a guy in Ukraina who sell any brass cast copy of medal. I mean any (from Nakhimov to Victory over Germany0 for $3-4 for each in bulk lots :(

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

Take a look at this Lenin Centenary foreign issue [famous auction:] 140353625437

I believe this is a genuine article. Take special note at the position of the hammer & sickle and star, they are centered in proportion to the medal. In other forgeries (with the inscription at the top removed), you will notice the hammer & sickle and star will be placed further down on the medal, a obvious sign of a re-dress of the medal. But, I must say, a foreign issue Lenin centenary medal is one of the rarest (and more expensive) medals you could find! (Especially a medal that was made from brass, or otherwise very common alloys) On a small note, I will say it looks like the suspension device and ribbon have seen better days (especially the pin)
