alright. i officially think the new uniforms look silly. too Victorian 1800's military for me.
as for the rest of the pictures, exemplary! fantastic to see so many veterans! a question about what they are wearing, some have their parade uniforms on, some, duty uniforms, some walking out uniforms, but all of them fit still! even if they all retired in the 80's and had a new uniform made for them the day they retired you would expect a lot of ill-fitting uniforms. do you think they have them tailored once a year? or is there another possible explanation

As for the rest of them--looks like the new uniforms that were being modeled by Russian models and fashion designers are being adopted, at least for the parade--from the video footage I've seen, there's no more of the giant Romanov eagles on the cap crowns for soldiers marching in parade, and there seems to be a brighter color style like that of the Soviet, rather than Russian Federation, era. I was expecting uniformly-colored blue or brown officers and enlisted men, like last year.

Some of the new uniforms looks plain GAY. If that is good or bad, not for me to decide, but the shape is not really militaristic but rather something that, as stated, would fit better somewhere else.
Quote:
a) do not wear the uniforms each day, maybe a handful of times per year b) do not gain, nor lose, substantial body-weight over the years c) have the possibility to get a new uniform if needed that is why they have uniforms that fit good and look good. I am more curious over the various uniform types used; some have wartime era service uniforms, some have 1950s parade uniforms, some have 1980s uniforms, some have wartime uniform in combination with present day Russian federation visor caps ... a melting pot of army wear :-) |

Re: The new uniform images that Tal posted:
I like them A LOT! Very retro. Obviously these are special occasion parade uniforms. I doubt they'll be seen again except on super special occasions. Compared to most western dress/parade uniforms they totally kick butt. I think only the English still wear uniforms on parade linked so much to the 18th and 19th centuries. The old helms and the Moisin/Nagant rifles with the needle bayonets are such a nice touch. Much nicer than AKs and those short knives. Despite the overly militaristic overtones it's good to see such an occaision held in so much honor. I think for the most part it's a good thing. Of the countries that had/have such an overt military history I can think that the Prussians (long gone), the Germans (prohibited by law) and the Brits are the few that really 'display well' when on parade. And, that one shot, with the Wehrmacht colors held 'low', just like they were in '45 is totally classic.

The heady days of Sputnik and Gagarin struck....I found this book on eBay and couldn't resist: a Soviet photo-album,Parade of Winners, published by Moscow "Planeta," 1985, 288 glossy pages. You guys were right! I was ONLY going to stick with Space Medals, but this stuff's addictive! I can't wait for the book to get here!
