Interesting photograph - what era?
OK, maybe a silly question, but this photograph looks a bit weird to me, so how do You think, when it could have been made?
Here's what I know: -It's most likely in Kraków; -The soviet officers wear overcoats with removable shoulderboards - like pre-58 ones; -The Polish officeron the pic seems to be wearing a post 1958 overcoat; -It's most likely late winter/early spring; -There seems to be a fiat 125p behind the tank - and those were not present in Poland before the 1970's (but can be wrong about the car - only it's back is visible); No moment of Soviet Tanks and high-rank officers in polish city centers come to my mind other than 1956 - but that would be October (OK, the season could be misidentified) and the polish officer would wear the old-style coat (however, Soviet uniforms seem to fit) and would most likely not be talking with the Soviet militarymen. Any guess as to what period this could be? |

Re: Interesting photograph - what era?
I'm not big on uniforms, but what is the chance the man with his back to us is in a Hungarian uniform? That would fit with the time and being in a city. Also, I thought polish hats had a zigzag design around the brim. Just a thought.

Re: Interesting photograph - what era?
The embroided zigzag on the cap bands wasm only for generals. The coat looks Polish to me, but it is possible that it is something else (I don't know what hungarian overcoats looked from the back). But why would a Hungarian be talking with High-rank (one general, one colonel or general and another officer) Soviets in the center of Kraków (unless it is adifferent city) in the 50's?

The truck (or bus) in the left is a Robur(second type), produced in East Germany.

The "New" Allies
Recently acquired is this interesting image of a nicely decorated Lt Col and his new "Allies" - still dressed in their Royal Bulgarian uniforms.
Just thought I'd share this one as I thought it quite noteworthy...

Re: Photographs Of Recipients Of Soviet Awards.
Bulgaria will still have been a Tsardom at the time.
I have always had a dislike for the elongated pocket flaps, looks like they took the German style and just had to go for longer. Does anyone recognise the HSU the Bulgarians are happy to be with?
