How long they gives the Red Banner ?
Hello folks,
This is my first post here, my friend "Soviet" told me about your wonderfull website a few weeks ago and I have finally register last night. :) I have a question about the Red banner. How long they gives those? I know theres some award in the 60's but I have never seen any award later then those. I wonder if they award those until the breakdown of the USSR or if they stop before ? Same question apply to the Red Banner of Labor, Order of Glory and Badge of Honor . I'm a curious man, I know. :D Any information will be appreciate. Manu |

These awards were all issued until the breakup of the Soviet Union and in limited cases, awards for valor earned for acts originally earned 1941-1945, even into the late 1990s. I don't know if Soviet labor awards were awarded post 1991.

Red Banner
Gentlemen,
I have these two ORB T4. Because of the S/Ns, and according to some sources, these might be different Variations or sub-variations. Can you please let me know if they are indeed different sub-var. or exactly the same Var. ? Thanks, Dolf |

Dolf,
They are the same type and variation (T3V2) This particular type and variation were minted at 3 seperate time periods at the Leningrad Mint. 1st batch numbered 364900 - 379504 was done around the begining of 1954 2nd batch numbered 423629 - 442636 was done August - December 1954 3rd batch numbered 450253 - 564955 was done around September of 1957 You just need one more to complete the set ;) Rusty.

Rusty,
T3V2 ?... A typo I guess, right? You probably meant T4V3, right? According to PMD thew are both T4. According to the Mondvor site (and to your list, althought I believe the #s have been updated on the Mondvor site) they are also both T4V3, if I'm not wrong (Тип 4, Вариант 3), unfortunately even with an online translator I'm not sure I can understand if they are of the same sub-variation :o The three range numbers you mention are apparently sub-variations inside this V3 (Вариант 3), which would already be considered a sub-variation itself if using PMD as a reference, as he doesn't mention no "official" Variation on this T4. Anyway, they are kind of different after all, right? Thanks, Dolf |

Oops!
Dolf, you are correct! The keyboard at my new job is not as forgiving as I'd like it to be to my fingers... PMD and MonDvor use different criteria for establishing types and variations. MonDvor is a live work in progress, hence it will change on almost a monthly basis or as new information cames in. They are neat and you should get the last one to complete the set! Rusty.

Rusty,
Ok, that's what I thought :) Quote:
I just mention it because PMD is still the reference in use by us all + all serious dealers. Anyway, as there are no Variations on PMD's Guide (what I call the "official" ones, or at least accepted by us all in the hobby) that's why I kind of consider Mondvor T4V3 a sub-variation in fact. (From what I can understand on Mondvor site they have 3 Variations of this Type 4, when PMD lists none)Therefore these two would be sub-sub-var... of a sub-var, see what I mean? (Sub-sub-var 1 and sub-sub-var 2 of Sub-var 3) Quote:
I mean I was thinking of to part from one of these... Thanks, Dolf |

Dolf,
I don't know if it's worth it to you to get the last one. It's a novelty of sorts I guess to have all 3 RB from the same mint from 3 different time frames. I would advise against selling any RB's. Here's my reasoning: It's the highest award for miliary action (aside from Suvorv, Kutuzov, etc) It's still affordable enough but I expect the prices to keep increasing! I bought my first one for $25 and now you can get $125 on eBay! Imagine the prices in a few years. Other than that, it's up to you! Rusty.

The problem is that I might need to sell one for buying another one, or maybe an exchange could work, will have to think about that a bit longer I guess :( Thanks again, Dolf |
